The Insurance Institute of Bristol - Welcome to our website
I find it difficult to believe that a year has gone by since I became President. I remain immensely proud to hold this position and believe we are continuously improving our organisation and offering to members.
Of course this has been achieved by the whole IIB Council and others who have given their time and expertise for no reward other than to help educate people in our industry and promote the value of our industry to society.
I also cannot believe I am putting myself forward for another year as President! Putting aside my desire for this, it would be good to have a contest for the role of President and I encourage other members to consider being nominated for this post; either this year or in the future.
I welcome new contributors and members to Council at any stage throughout the year. Please get involved. It is very rewarding and increases your contacts and, dare I say it, friends in the industry.
What have we done in the last year?
- Grown our membership to over 3300 members, making us the fourth largest local institute in the UK
- Delivered over 25, often oversubscribed, education events attended by over 700 people
- Launched a concerted effort to get newer members involved in the IIB. We now have a thriving Social Committee which I hope will provide entertaining events and the next generation of Council members and Presidents
- Joined forces with other organisations. Notably the Institute of Directors, South West Fraud Forum and Career Academies
- Organised an extremely successful 121st Annual Dinner on the 9th of March. This was held at the Marriott City Centre in Bristol for the first time in many years and attended by over 420 people. For the first time we had a principal sponsor as well as other supporting companies, which enabled us to put on a good show. Please let me know what you thought and how we could improve things for next year
What do I plan for the forthcoming year?
I plan to build on the success of the above and in particular:
- Continue to increase the capacity of the education offering so that we reach more people with the subjects they want
- Welcome new members to Council. We will have some interesting opportunities for people to get involved over the next 12 months so do not be afraid to volunteer
- Increase our marketing capacity having agreed with Council to invest capital in a Marketing Assistant to support Sam Roberts, Area Marketing Manager. This is a key opportunity to increase membership and further supply what our members want and need
- Build on the success of this year’s Annual Dinner with an even better one next year. Watch this space!
Finally, please contact me with suggestions, comments and complaints! This organisation exists solely to serve its members. Without your voice this becomes an increasingly difficult job.
Best wishes,
Paul Timmins
President
