Welcome

Our Local Institute covers a large area, including the founding principal towns of Folkestone and Canterbury but stretching as far as Herne Bay and Whitstable in the north, and Thanet and Dover in the east of the region. If you have never been involved with your LI before, then maybe this is the year to start. We are keen to attract new people and you do not need to be a member of the Local Institute initially to be involved - just come along to see what you think!

We have a full programme of events planned where you will have the opportunity to meet other members and myself in a friendly and relaxed environment. Our events are intended to be a mix of technical updates, vital in this ever changing market (all attracting CPD points) and popular social events. Dates and venues for all of these events are shown by clicking the Events tab above.

The Institute is committed to serving its members and new ideas or suggestions about any matters relating to the Institute and its services are always welcome. If you would like to discuss any issues or wish to become a member, please do not hesitate to contact Ray Johnson, whose details can be found in the Contact tab. I look forward to meeting you all in the near future.

Education is a key part of our work and we provide examination facilities for both the April and October examinations. Please do take a look in the Learning section of this website, in particular under Exam Support, as we have financial initiatives to help you. Or do contact the CII directly for further information.

Ray Johnson has recently been appointed the new President, who took over from Frances Spencer.

Ray commented: “Having worked in the insurance industry for over 25 years I have always been a strong supporter of the local institute and I am very proud to have been elected as the new President. It is particularly pleasing to take this role during the year that the Chartered Insurance Institute celebrates 100 years since its Royal Charter and of course being the Olympic year.

Our local Insurance Institute provides support to those within the industry to assist with training, career guidance and examination support, as well as social and network opportunities which includes a number of events throughout the year.

My aim is to widen participation particularly with the younger members and I would encourage anyone who may wish to join our Institute to contact us. I would also like to engage further with the insurance community to promote and assist with education opportunities for both employees and employers alike with perhaps internships or apprenticeship facilities. I would also like to arrange a visit to Lloyds for members and encourage stronger support for our popular talks.

I have a great team supporting me and feel confident we can get a larger section of our membership involved
