Dear member of the Insurance Institute of Leicester.
I have been a member of the CII for nearly 30 years but have only recently become involved with my local institute. So when I was asked to be President for the forthcoming year my initial thought was “Institute Dinner and speech!” and I was overcome with fear. However after a short sit down and an alcoholic beverage I realised that despite the annual dinner being the highlight in the institute calendar, your local institute does so much more.
The Insurance Institute of Leicester is very fortunate to have long serving, experienced council members from a variety of insurance sectors, and with this comes a vast array of knowledge and experience. The Insurance Institute of Leicester has an excellent reputation for providing a varied educational programme via lunchtime lectures and seminars and hosting several fund raising events each year. These events not only provide funds for good causes but also excellent networking opportunities and a good deal of fun.
It is therefore with great pride and pleasure that I take on the role as President of the Insurance Institute of Leicester for the 2011/12 year, and I am looking forward to meeting as many members as possible in the forthcoming year.
As a PFS member I am acutely aware of the RDR deadline set by the FSA for all advisers to be deemed competent by 1 January 2013, and this year we will be expanding our educational programme to include PFS topics to assist members in attaining “Gap Fill”.
We would like to reinstate our “Young Members Committee” and so are looking for volunteers to join the council and put forward the needs of younger professionals. I would encourage the younger professionals to get more involved with the local institute as this provides you with the unique opportunity to network with other insurance professionals and broaden your knowledge.
We hold lots of social events in addition to the educational programme and you can be assured of a good night out on every occasion.
Please remember that this is your institute and we need to know what you want from your council. If you have any requests, ideas or comments we would be pleased to hear from you, you can email me at jfielding@brfs.co.uk.
I look forward to meeting you at one of our many events and especially at the Institute Dinner to hear that speech!
