Overview:

Contentious all-inclusive holiday sickness claims against the public liability policies of tour operators and hotels could threaten the future of the travel industry.

This epidemic has risen to such an extent over the last 12 months that hoteliers and tour operators are now questioning if it is wise to do business with UK tourists.

As a result, the costs of holidays is going to have to rise and the costs of underwriting policies and dealing with claims is going to increase. The fraudsters are moving in at a rapid rate and this problem has been likened across the industry to the serious issue of fraudulent whiplash claims and that it needs addressing in the same way. .

BLM commissioned YouGov to survey over 2000 UK consumers about their travel habits and attitudes to this fraud. A staggering 46% of consumers questioned think that it is acceptable to make a claim for food poisoning even if they weren’t sure their illness was the fault of the hotel.
