IIC&G PRESIDENT'S AGM MESSAGE TO MEMBERS

Wherever you are reading or listening to this, I hope you and your family are well and in good physical and mental health.

In recent messages I have spoken of the impact the current COVID-19 crisis has had on IICG. In the annual report I want to shift the focus onto the amazing achievements you have delivered throughout the whole year:

Our CPD Programme has been fantastic.
25 events across all disciplines of Technical GI & FS, soft/human skills, revision and topical industry and social/economic debate. We have delivered at different venues, introduced breakfast seminars, evolved into the world of webinars and produced 35 hours of CPD enjoyed by 1130 members. Feedback has always been complimentary and I know our Education team have great plans for the next year.

Continued support of Insurance Charities fund via a golf event in May 2019. £275 raised.

Continued presence and real engagement at local school career fairs

Creation of Education Champions working with new CII Discover Risk material and ready to roll out to schools in 2020/21

Laura Eccles our Achiever of the Year being awarded CII New Professional of the Year at NC 2019 and then Post Magazine Claims Rising Star Award

IICG Charity Golf Day raising £566 for QE Hospital and it’s first Hole in One

Volunteer Days at Cheltenham Animal Shelter

98% Institute Delivery Approval rating as measured by CII criteria

Over 350 papers successfully passed in the exam centres. Congratulations to all involved

Last month breaking the 2000 member barrier (currently 2012)

A re-energised S&S programme with record Quiz numbers, Ten Pin bowling, Lion King and Christmas Pantomime visits and Summer and Winter market drinks

Charity:
224kg delivered to Gloucester Foodbank
Cheltenham Animal Shelter (CAS) collection of much needed food and blankets
Dragging myself round 1350 miles running and walking in the last 12 months.
Cake and Bake sale followed by the 16 mile walk to collect and deliver the funds to CAS
All events culminating in £2800 being raised for CAS in this 12 month period excluding the 2 major fund raising events which have been re-arranged

Being ranked 7th out of 56 Institutes in delivery rating and 2nd in the 1000-2000 member group

Inevitably the COVID-19 outbreak has caused logistical challenges. Our response however has been what I would have expected from our group of council members; quick, concise, sharp, considered and pro-active. New dates have all been found for our dinner involving 200 guests (an amazing achievement Dinner Secretary).charity golf days,runs/walks,quiz and exams. We also have discovered and introduced new ways of CPD learning. Webinars are here to stay but not exclusively at the replacement of our invaluable learning and social get togethers

In summary, whether it has been in the ground breaking New Gen CPD mental health programme, challenging the institute on technology issues, revamping our sports and social programme, reaching out to young people about their career and life prospects, helping those a lot less fortunate than ourselves whether they be humans or animals and you setting the tone with your personal CII examination passes, then I could not have asked for more from both councils, main and New Gen AND chiefly yourselves as members. Thank you so much.

The new teams looks great for 2021. I have learnt a lot particularly in recent weeks and today at our virtual AGM, have been privileged to be voted in again as your President for 2020/21.

I will put that learning to good use and keep improving my performance in the next 12 months We have some challenging times ahead and a lot to cram in whilst looking after ourselves and families (and pets) but it will be worth it.

Please keep supporting the council, your institute, our industry.

With best wishes

Simon McGill
