Crowne Plaza
Tuesday, 27 January 2015
8:00 am – 10:00 am (UK time)

Speaker: Rachel Cope, Legal Consultant at WhoPays4Care
Cost: Free, including bacon rolls with tea & coffee

The event will help advisers develop their understanding of long term care in the UK, particularly the impact of the Care Act 2014. This includes understanding long term care options, state benefits available and the consequences of giving away assets to avoid care costs.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, delegates will be able to describe:
-Have all benefit entitlements been claimed and what are they?
-How to ensure patients and carers receive their full entitlements if care is provided at home.
-Has the “means test” to ascertain how much an individual pays for care been completed properly and at the correct time taking account of the correct facts?
-Have all “disregards” [what the state says can't be taken account of in means test calculations] actually been allowed?
-The consequences of giving away assets [home, savings etc.] to avoid them being used for care
-The consequences [emotional and financial] of someone losing capacity without having loves ones appointed as legal representative [including spouses] to look after their affairs.
-What the Care Act 2014 can mean to you.
