    • Branko Bjelobaba, Managing Director, Branko Insurance

The IIG is delighted to welcome Branko Bjelobaba to Guernsey on 20 and 21 March, where he will deliver two seminars to attendees. Branko is an award-winning professional within the insurance sector, specialising in delivering engaging and relatable talks on the regulatory and compliance topics and challenges the insurance sector is facing. If you would like to reserve your place, the seminars are now open for booking up until 19th March 2024.

The two seminars Branko will deliver are:

Global Risks Facing the Insurance Industry - 20th March 2024 - Moores Hotel @ 17:30pm - Dinner included

Today war, weather extremes and the cost of living crisis dominate public debate but the four biggest risks have not changed for a while now – cyber, regulation, climate change and technology. The sector appears to be rather relaxed regarding corporate governance but the failure to attract and retain the right talent is now rated in the top five risks. Will the wider impact of macro-economic factors continue to impact in terms of coverage, price/value and overall service delivery?

Consumer Duty & Multi-Occupancy Buildings Insurance - 21th March 2024 - Les Rocquettes Hotel @ 07:30am - Breakfast included

31 July 2023 was a new dawn for insurance and financial services and requires firms to get their heads around a new core principle, three cost-cutting rules and four emphatic outcomes. Sheldon Mills, Executive Director of Consumers and Competition at the FCA, warned that firms who ignore the Duty or who pose the most harm can expect swift action. On 20 September 2023 they issued separate updates for the Retail and Wholesale sectors and the talk will update you on these and what they are still not happy with – especially what they perceive value to mean.

The current cost of living squeeze makes it all the more vital consumers get fair value, and this should also benefit the competitiveness of the industry as firms strive to offer the best to compete for customers.

The new rules on Multi-occupancy Insurances were published on 22 September 2023. We will also cover the new rules that will be effective from 1 January 2024 following intervention by the government – these new rules will impact 5 million leaseholders. They will be defined as customers and firms will have to act in their best interests and no commission sharing will be allowed with PMAs who will have to charge transparent fees for their services. Insurers and brokers will also need to provide more information about policies to leaseholders, including detail of all remuneration.
