The Institute was founded in 1913.
In common with many other regional institutes Hull has seen insurance company representation shrink over the years, although member numbers remain strong due to support from brokers, loss adjusters, financial advisers and other diverse insurance-related businesses who recognise the value of professionalism.
We retain a complete set of Council Minutes from 1913 onwards, and these reveal the changes to both our industry and wider society. We had our fair share of armed forces members during the two World Wars, with consequent casualties recorded for posterity.
Sports and social events have always featured strongly and at one time we had a rifle club, plus netball, badminton and cricket teams. In 2009-2010 we are holding a 5-a-side football event, plus a Quiz and our traditional “Hot Pot” social evening.
The Annual Dinner held in Hull’s Guildhall in February remains a well-attended and always memorable event, amid historic and prestigious surroundings.
The City of Hull has suffered in some ways from being “at the end of the line” but we continue to thrive in our own niche and aim to be here for many years.
