Current Times - Luke Brame

This week we hear from Luke Brame, our Head of Communications.

"As we found ourselves in late June early July starting to be able to do a few more activities, my best friend and I decided, after a 2 year gap, that we should look to take up golf again. There were a number of reasons for this. Firstly, golf is something that we both enjoyed and wanted to take up again but neither of us had the time. Second, there is no more perfect activity for socially distancing (especially as the ball regularly goes in a direction I did not intend). And third and finally, the thought of going out to an open space, with no time limits, with good company felt like the perfect thing to help clear the mind from the stresses of lockdown.

On our first round, on my very first tee shot I managed to send the ball 50 yards into a neighbouring field, not the best start. Needless to say over the first few rounds we got through a lot of balls (mostly me I would add). However, this did not matter. The freedom of being out in the fresh air, generally with exceptional weather was exhilarating and the sense of normality was wonderful after the full lockdown period, both of us commented on the positive effect it was having on our mental health.

Over the months since we have continued to play golf and as a side bonus, seem to be improving slightly, even though in the picture attached you see me in my natural habitat which is a green side bunker. Those unfortunate people who I have regularly been conversing with over these months will tell you how much I have got into golf, but it really has given me something to focus on in the current times. Recently I went round Ufford Park in Woodbridge with my father, the first 18 hole course we’ve been round in years and I played the best round of golf I have ever played.

I very much intend to keep on playing golf in the coming months and hopefully years to come. Without Covid and the times we find ourselves in I doubt that I would have picked up golf again, and wouldn’t have spent the quality time with my best friend and father."
