CPD Event Strategies for Effective Learning

This is a lunchtime CPD session covering strategies for effective learning for professional exams, and is designed to give attendees insights into the science of successful learning that will support their preparation for professional examinations.

The session will cover the following areas:
· The impact of beliefs or perceptions about intelligence
· What it takes to learn something
· ‘Desirable Difficulties' and the power of forgetting
· Avoiding popular (but ineffective) study techniques
· Using (and not just receiving) feedback
· Memory and transfer

Our speaker, Simon Milner, has been teaching in Jersey since 2009; he currently has responsibility for leading the development of learning in an 11-18 school. He studied at Oxford University as an undergraduate and then postgraduate student.

This seminar will be held in the Ground Floor Board Room at Islands Insurance at 12:45pm for a 1pm start. The event will last approximately 45 minutes and is free to members. Please note that spaces are limited and will be reserved on a first-come first-served basis. When replying, please provide your CII PIN. Non-members are welcome to attend at a cost of £5.00. Lunch will be provided for all attendees.
