Motor Limits: Drink and Drug Law

Event Overview

The session will provide an improved knowledge among delegates of drink drive limits and law.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the session the delegate will have a better understanding of:


• the limits, what do they mean in the real world,
• How alcohol is absorbed into body and how long does it take
before I can drive (morning after)
• Factors that affect alcohol levels
• What are drugs and who are drug users ?
• What is the law and how may it affect everyone?
• How do police know if someone has taken drugs and prove
impairment (practical demo’ of impairment test)

Sergeant Paul Mountford has served in Merseyside Police for almost 30 years. For over 27 years he has been a Traffic/Roads Policing officer. He trains police on drink and drug drive law and procedure.

He was trained by C.H.P in California to recognise drug signs in drivers. He talks to businesses (drivers and managers) about road safety issues for drivers who drive for work. I also talk to teenagers about driving issues that affect them.
