The Insurance Act 2015 came into force in August 2016, and represents the biggest change to insurance law for over 100 years.

This session will cover the key changes brought in and how the Act has been interpreted and applied in the months since, and will provide practical considerations for those dealing with insurance at both the underwriting and claims stages.

Learning objectives
By the end of the session the delegate will have an understanding of:
1. The key changes brought in by the Insurance Act 2015, including:
a. Duty of fair presentation;
b. Deemed knowledge of insurer and insured;
c. The role of the broker;
d. Insurers’ remedies for insured’s breach;
e. Warranties and other terms;
f. Contracting out of the Act;
g. The effect of fraud.
2. How the Act has been interpreted and applied in the few months since it came in force;
3. Practical considerations for insurers, insureds and brokers.

Speaker Biography

Alex is an Associate in Weightmans’ Professional Risk team. He acts for professionals and their insurers in the defence of professional negligence claims, and handles insurance matters of all kinds, such as policy coverage and declinature, aggregation, pursuit of subrogated claims, double insurance apportionment.
