In this session Alastair Haughton will be talking about the chosen topic of Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD), covering an overview and the issues facing the industry. Winthin your groups, you will have the opportunity to discuss in more detail to assist each other in writing your reports.

Learning objectives
By the end of the session delegates will be able to:

  • describe the FCA’s proposals for implementing the Insurance Distribution Directive; and
  • understand both:
    • the likely impact of the changes on insurance distribution; and
    • the practical implications for insurers and brokers in implementing the Directive and the FCA’s new Rules

Speaker biography
Alastair works for a regulatory compliance consultancy, Thistle Initiatives, in their Insurance and Consumer Credit team based in Warrington. He has 38 years’ experience within the financial services industry. Starting his career in banking, including working as a financial adviser, he made the move to regulatory compliance pre-FSA and has held a number of roles gaining a wealth of experience in analysis of regulatory requirements, new system design and implementation, and operational compliance.
A specialist in FCA Rules and Guidance affecting the UK General Insurance Broker and Credit Broker population, Alastair focuses on a number of areas of the FCA Handbook (including ICOBS, SYSC, PERG, SUP, MIPRU, DISP, CASS, CONC), TCF best practice and customer centricity, data protection and financial promotions. He presents at Thistle’s bi-annual Workshops which in the last twelve months have looked in detail at the impact and implications of GDPR and the IDD.
