The Commercial Courts Process or “ How Do I Sue My Insurer “ **Webinar**
One of the issues that has arisen recently in the general insurance sector is that of uncertainty around cover for Covid losses. No-one likes uncertainty, and press reports have suggested that some big-name insurers could face legal action from policyholders if claims are rejected or delays prolonged.
How does anybody go about doing that and what is the process for commercial law cases? Hopefully most of us will never have to go through such events, but it is useful to understand how the system works. This webinar will be suitable for anyone interested in the civil law process and the courts system, whether in general insurance or financial services.
At the end of this webinar, which should last around 1 hour, attendees will have a greater understanding of how the commercial courts work. This will cover such topics as Pre-action protocols and disclosure; Low level county court claims; the different divisions of the High Court; Issuing proceedings; Court fees; Case management – directions for the parties to follow; Interim hearings; Mediation, and Trials. Where possible the speaker will give (anonymous) examples of real-life cases.
Our speaker is Sarah Pether, solicitor with Andrew Jackson Solicitors LLP, based in Hull.
As a litigation lawyer, Sarah has a broad range of expertise including acting for claimants and defendants in respect of personal injury claims, general litigation such as neighbour disputes, breach of contract claims and licensing. Sarah also advises on insurance disputes and is a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
With over 15 years’ experience dealing with personal injury claims, Sarah advises on road traffic accidents, accidents at work, slipping and tripping claims, serious injury and fatal accident claims. She has particular experience in dealing with personal injury claims arising from shipping accidents both onshore and offshore.
