Visit to Brookhurst Wood Mechanical & Biological Treatment Facility

Ever keen to bring you something a little different, the Insurance Institute of Sussex will be visiting BIFFA's flagship Mechanical & Biological Treatment Facility to learn how over 75% of incoming household waste is diverted into a resource rather than going to landfill.

Capable of processing over 300,000 tonnes of waste per year, this facility near Horsham includes the mechanical recovery of both recyclable material and residual waste and has the ability to produce up to 4.5MW of electrical power to power the site and export to the national grid.

Online Booking
This event is free to members (who may each bring one guest) and should last approximately two hours. To reserve your place, please use our online booking system by clicking on the Book Now button below.

After the event, those attending will have the option of retiring to the nearby Sussex Oak in Warnham where they can buy drinks and something to eat. (If you are intending to eat here, please let us know when booking as we will need to give numbers to the Sussex Oak a week in advance - food choices can be ordered on the day.

Special Instructions
This event is being run by BIFFA West Sussex Ltd and is generally suitable for all ages. As this is a working site, some basic health and safety requirements are in place. Most notably, all attendees must wear long trousers as no-one wearing shorts or skirts/dresses will be admitted. Hi-vis jackets and any other protective gear that may be needed during the tour will be provided by BIFFA on the day.

Getting there
Due to the location of this venue, the easiest way of getting there is by car. The Brookhurst Wood facility is located in Langhurst Wood Road, North Horsham. Langhurst Wood Road is off the A264 just past the sign for the Warnham train station.
