A thank you to our members - Signing Tree venue

A thank you to our members

We’ve recently received a huge thank you from The Signing Tree; part of Birmingham based charity BID Services and as many of you will know, a venue for our CII exams.

The letter highlights the excellent work of the charity and how by utilising this venue we are helping to support the day to day lives of those who need it.

We couldn’t help to be touched by the story of one of their Service Users, who we will refer to as John…

John was born in 1925 with a hearing impairment. John has always been aware of BID Services and that it was the place to go for deaf people to find out more about benefits, jobs, socialise and get involved with sports including competitions with other local deaf clubs all over the UK.

John retired at 65 after working with the Morris Car Company for 34 years, so now comes to the Wednesday social club for older people. John has been attending the club for over 20 years and although he is now 94 he still try’s to come every week.

John says it’s “so it's important for me to come here as it keeps me going. It's always nice to catch up with everyone, especially your friends that you have known since school”

The Wednesday social club is an important part of BID Services as many of the people who come find its’s the only opportunity they have to get out and socialise with other deaf people. It helps many to feel less isolated.

The Signing Tree

Of course this external recognition is for you, our members. By taking your exams to support your own personal development, you are supporting our local community at the same time. Thank you!
