Lunchtime Lecture: Is insurance the new banking?

Jeremy Irving, Head of Financial Services at Browne Jacobson LLP, will discuss the ramifications of the current status of the FCA’s studies of –

  • UK wholesale insurance brokers and
  • pricing practices in the UK Home and Motor insurance markets.

Key factors considered will include the practical effects on –

  • firms’ duties to customers under the Insurance Distribution Directive; and
  • distribution chains that include intermediaries that are not advisers or otherwise agents of the insured.

The learning objectives for the seminar will be understanding –

  • which of the FCA’s powers and duties, and what features of UK insurance markets, have led the FCA to pursue the market studies;
  • what the outcomes of the studies could be; and
  • what steps insurance businesses can take now to prepare for the potential outcomes.
