Establishing an alliance with the Insurance Industry and Business Fire Safety
Presentation Overview:
Join Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service business support team for an overview on fire safety legislation and its role as the Enforcing Authority.
Open discussions on how DWFRS and the insurance industry can ensure businesses are fully informed of their fire safety responsibilities – and their legal requirements.

Michelle White - & Justin Barrett - Business Support Advisors at Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service
The Business Support Advisor role is in the protection department which covers commercial premises, communal areas, all premises under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 legislation.
Michelle and Justin advise and offer guidance to businesses regarding the fire safety responsibilities and legislation.
They attend events for businesses and give presentations to different types of premises – village halls, factories and shops mainly simple premises which do not involve sleeping risk.
They support their inspectors with posting social media or articles if a particular trend is noticed.

Audience:
The session is aimed at all CII/PFS members or guests who are involved in insurance underwriting, risk assessment, claims management.
At the end of the session, attendees will understand:
- fire safety regulations (Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and how it applies to businesses
- why businesses need a fire risk assessment: what it should contain, who should carry it out and when it should it be reviewed
- what this necessitates for insurance cover/companies
- where to get further help, support and advice
