Gin tasting event

On Wednesday 25th May, eleven local CII members gathered around a candlelit table at Cambridge Wine Merchants, Cherry Hinton Road, to taste a variety of different styles of gin.

Hosted by the lovely Natasha - our 'gin expert' - the evening educated us on the history and processes of making and drinking gin.

We tried:

Cambridge Distillery Cambridge Dry Gin - A gin made locally by Lucy and William Lowe, a husband and wife team with a passion for gin.

The London No.1 Blue Gin - A 47% "melt-your-face-off" kind of gin that is actually blue.

Chase Seville Orange Gin - A citrus-y-sweet gin, made by the famous Chase vodka producers.

No. 209 San Francisco Gin - The favourite, by all accounts.

Botanist Islay Gin - A Scottish gin, from the Isle of Islay.

Masons Yorkshire Tea Gin - In which you can smell and taste hints of Yorkshire Tea!

Warner Edwards Sloe Gin - A red, syrupy, sweet sloe gin.

The favourites were the Cambridge Distillery Cambridge Dry Gin and the No. 209 San Francisco Gin - which was loved so much by some, that they took a bottle home!

All of this booze was accompanied by cheeses, meats and breads, also provided by Cambridge Wine Merchants; and all attendees benefited from a 10% discount on any purchases made on the night.

The event was a resounding success, thank you to Cambridge Wine Merchants, Cherry Hinton Road, for hosting.

Lots of ideas are being passed around for our next social event, so watch this space!
