CIIs Society of Insurance Broking to focus on attracting talent

The CIIs Society of Insurance Broking has revealed plans to focus on talent attraction to the profession and educational engagement in the year ahead.

This month (September) sees the Society of Insurance Broking (SIB) marking its third birthday.

Launched in September 2018, the society is designed to support broking professionals by providing essential good practice guidance, thought leadership, and a dedicated programme of continued professional development.

In the year ahead the professional body will work with key stakeholders in further and higher education to ensure that insurance broking is an attractive career path, with multiple entry routes, including graduate roles, trainee positions, apprenticeships, etc.

The society will also continue to look at the crucial issue of trust and reputation in the broking sector, and how individual actions can improve public trust in insurance.

In the last 12 months the society has focussed on skills for the hard market, particularly recognising there is a generation of young brokers who have never faced such challenging market conditions.

Webinars plus guidance was produced on an array of topics, including how to handle difficult renewal conversations.

Members of the SIB Board also led panel discussions on these topics at the CII's Professional Focus conference in April and BIBA 2021 conference in May.
