Event Review

Late October saw a new style of CPD event take place in Chester city centre. The lunch time event organised by the Insurance Institute of Chester and North Wales at the Crowne Plaza was aimed at the members from the financial services and insurance sector, whilst local accountants, law professionals and training providers were also invited to promote local networking. Over 50 attendees came together to 'Become a more confident and effective networker' under the instruction of Will Kintish. Mr Kintish of Kintish Ltd is an acknowledged leading UK authority on effective networking who presented the topic in an entertaining and motivational manner.

Following a short session of open networking, Mr Kintish introduced himself to the delegates with his unique icebreakers which got the delegates involved, speaking in a relaxed manner and understanding how they can use the same techniques. The session worked through different scenarios which the delegates may face and a variety of solutions were provided to issues which individuals may face when networking. Delegates seemed to find it particularly useful to reference how they had behaved in the introductory open networking, so that they could recognise how to improve their approach in similar situations.

Following the presentation, the session broke for lunch which gave the delegates the opportunity to put some of their newly learnt networking skills into practice. During the lunch break Mr Kintish took the opportunity to take the group through practical examples in his usual lively manner, with the help of a few willing volunteers, which provided a very different and entertaining lunch.

After the break, the key networking points were reviewed and it was explained how opportunities should be dealt with following the initial meeting, in order to maximise the potential benefits. The session was concluded by giving key pointers on how to use LinkedIn as a networking and research tool.

Paul Rutherford, ACII FInstSMM, President of the Insurance Institute of Chester and North Wales, commented ”Will Kintish made an outstanding presentation on becoming a more confident and effective networker. His enthusiasm and humour were infectious qualities which kept the audience's attention completely. Most importantly, the guidance he provided was of considerable value to both new and dyed-in- the-wool networkers. Without doubt, Will enhanced the credibility of our institute to both our members and the many attendees from other professions.”
