Cyber incidents and their impact on businesses
The Insurance Society of Edinburgh, in conjunction with Beazley, are pleased to announce the above named subject for our next CPD event for it's members.
In today’s era of accelerating cyber risks, organisations are on the front line. No matter the size of the business or what sector they operate in, they will face challenges.
The recent CrowdStrike IT outage is a timely reminder of how fragile networks are and what can go wrong when one link in the chain makes an error or costly mistake. In this session, Matthew Norris from Beazley will explore what actually happens during cyber incidents, how do they affect companies, and what can be done to reduce their likelihood and impact?
Learning objectives:
- Identify the most common types of cyber incident and trends
- Understand core risk management features that will improve the resilience of organisations
- Describe how insurance products can help protect clients

Matthew has been an insurance underwriter for over 30 years, issuing some of the earliest cyber insurance policies back in the late 1990s. Over the years he has seen cyber exposures and the insurance market’s response develop significantly. Matt joined Beazley in 2013 and more recently has been involved in working to help smaller businesses make sure they have the right IT security infrastructure in place to be eligible for cyber insurance.
