Online CPD - Financial Awareness

  • Fri 28 Oct 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
    • Alan Chandler, General Insurance Training and Consultancy

Financial awareness – a plain English overview for all insurance staff on how to understand clients’ accounts Recent global events mean understanding clients’ accounts has never been more important for brokers and underwriters alike, with tremendous scrutiny now being put on clients' accounts, so account executives, account handlers and underwriters will need to understand the main terminology. This presentation, provided by Alan Chandler one of the most popular presenters in the UK, looks to provide a plain English understanding of what is in a balance sheet and Profit and Loss account and how these can be read easily by non-accountants. The webinar will also explore the difference between what an accountant records and what an insurer needs, this information can aid brokers and underwriters in helping policyholders avoid the under insurance trap.

FCA Consumer Duty and Product Governance for General Insurance

  • Fri 23 Sep 10:00 am – 11:00 am
    • Branko Bjelobaba FCII

The FCA want to see a higher level of consumer protection in retail financial markets, where firms compete vigorously in the interests of consumers and they wish to drive a healthy and successful financial services system in which firms can thrive and consumers can make informed choices about financial products and services. They consider that firms are not consistently and sufficiently prioritising good consumer outcomes and this causes consumer harm and erodes consumer trust. With final rules published on 27 July 2022 this talk will update you as to what now will be needed. This General Insurance focused session will also include an update on Product Value Assessments that have to be completed by 30 September (note the FCA have criticised insurers for their lack of progress with this) and have given brokers an extension of 90 days so as to prevent customer harm. Both brokers and insurers have an important role to play and this session will ensure you understand what it is you have to do. We will also cover the current position on multi-occupancy insurances following intervention by the government (very much part of the product governance and value assessments work).

  • Fri 16 Sep 10:00 am – 11:30 am
    • Henry Cobbe, Elston Consulting

Inflation is on the rise, and it's distorting both equity and bond performance. Advisers relying on traditional "long-run" models need to rethink portfolios to ensure inflation resilience. Within equities, value-investing is making a comeback. Traditional bonds are under pressure as they can't keep pace with inflation, so are failing to offer either capital protection or diversification. Alternatives require careful risk budgeting and focus on liquidity. In this workshop, we look at ways advisers can build-in inflation resilience to portfolios, based on lessons from the past.

BI covid claims – where are we now?

  • Wed 24 Aug 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

The FCA originally considered some 370,000 insureds have bought this cover from around 60 different insurers and the FOS does not appear to be over-stretching the reach of the judgment (but there is an interesting 26 page decision over an Allianz insured with a covid on the premises claim having been allowed).
