Broker Beware

While trying to manage and insure against risk on behalf of their clients, insurance brokers bear a lot of risk themselves from the extensive suite of duties they own. This event explored this minefield and gave delegates really life examples to aid them in their day to day operations.

By attending this seminar members were able to identify:

  • Knowledge of duties incumbent upon insurance brokers
  • Situations where breaches may arise
  • How to avoid breaches and limiting liability.

The event was delivered by Alisdair Matheson and Alan Calvert.

Alisdair Matheson is a partner at Brodies LLP with a practice focussed mainly on professional negligence actions involving solicitors, accountants, surveyors and construction professionals such as engineers and architects. It also includes claims on policy issues and broker claims. Alisdair acts primarily for insurer clients and has litigated in the Sheriff Court, Court of Session and in arbitrations for nearly 20 years. He is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in both Professional Negligence and Construction Law.

Alan Calvert is a partner at Brodies LLP and specialises in Professional Negligence, Construction and Commercial disputes on behalf of Insurer, Corporate and Partnership clients and heads up Brodies' Professional Negligence Unit. He has over 20 years’ experience of handling claims involving engineers, architects, surveyors, solicitors, accountants, brokers and IFA's as well as construction industry contractors, and has had responsibility for teams handling occupational disease claims for employers. Alan is named as notable practitioner for Professional Negligence work by Chambers & Partners and Legal 500.
