Sprinklers and Insurance

The Professional Development Group of the IASG and in conjunction with the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service held a CPD event which focussed on The Glasgow School of Art Fire and the Investigation of the Incident.

By attending this event delegates were be able to identify:

  • Sources of ignition within a building
  • How fire can spread undetected through hidden voids within a building
  • Benefits of fire stopping and cavity barriers with a building; and
  • Benefits that a sprinkler system would bring to the protection of a building.

The presentation was delivered by ACO Lewis Ramsay

Lewis Ramsay is the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s Director of Prevention and Protection.

ACO Ramsay led the development of national community safety services throughout the fire reform process and is responsible for the design of fire safety policy and planning across Scotland, in addition to being an key member of the Service’s Strategic Leadership Team.

Lewis sits on the Scottish Government’s Building Safer Communities Programme Board and is a Director of the Scottish Business Resilience Centre.

He joined the Service in 1988 and has served in a number of high profile roles during his career, including as Area Commander in South Glasgow between 2005 and 2009.

Lewis, who has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, is married with 2 children and when off duty enjoys golf, which he has described as “…an easy game but hard to play.”
