Following member feedback, the Young Professionals Committee has organised a follow up / Part Two session from the original webinar that was held on the 10th December 2020. This webinar will cover certain topics in more detail including tax efficiency, financial protection and pensions.

Part One: How to make your affairs more tax efficient

  • Income tax: how it is calculated and how to utilise your annual tax allowances efficiently and the various tax reliefs to potentially reduce your income tax, such as by making pension contributions, using ISA’s and investing into EIS/VCT’s

  • When you need to submit a tax return

  • How pension tax relief works

  • Capital Gains Tax: How it works, how it’s calculated and how you can use your annual Capital Gains Tax allowance (the most unused tax allowance!) to reduce tax. Also the importance of reporting losses in your tax return

Part Two: Financial Protection

  • What are the main types of Life insurance and protection which can cover yourself and your family and examples of costings and what these plans can pay out

  • How does income protection work – what does my employer provide?

  • State benefits

Part Three: Pensions

  • A deeper look into the world of pensions, including how much income your pot could provide you with

  • The different ways you can draw your pension once you reach retirement age

  • Other benefits of pensions, including passing wealth down the generations
