History

The Institute was founded in 1913.

In common with many other regional institutes, Hull has seen insurance company representation shrink over the years. Member numbers do remain strong however due to support from brokers, loss adjusters, financial advisers and other diverse insurance-related businesses who recognise the value of professionalism.

We retain a complete set of Council Minutes from 1913 onwards, and these reveal the changes to both our industry and wider society. We had our fair share of armed forces members during the two World Wars, with consequent casualties recorded for posterity.

For our Centenary we published two books which may be of interest to Members and others. One is a history of the Institute listing some events and people of note, and is available free of charge on request.

The other, Until We See The Dawn, is about those members who were killed during the First World War. Copies are available for £10, proceeds going to the Insurance Charities. Contact the Secretary if you are interested.
