Behavioural Finance

In reading most standard finance teaching texts one is struck by the way in which any human drama, the greed, eccentricity or caprice of market participants has been purged. Anyone reading about the tumult and avarice of financial markets, or watching it unfold on television, might quite perplexed about how its activities could be illuminated by the mathematical economic theory which dominates academic journals. Behavioural finance is the study of how psychological phenomena impact financial behaviour.

In line with members' requests for training on this subject, the Insurance Institute of Inverness, the Highlands and Islands are delighted to have teamed up with Aberdeen University to be able to invite you to a session which will begin to explore the vast and topical subject which is Behavioural Finance.

Our hosts for the morning will be Dr Jürgen Bracht and Dr Mauro Papi.

Dr Jürgen Bracht is a lecturer in Economics at the University of Aberdeen. Jürgen teaches Experimental Economics and Finance in the Scottish Graduate Programme in Economics (Edinburgh) and statistics in the MSc in Financial Mathematics at the University of Aberdeen.

Dr Mauro Papi is also a lecturer in Economics at the University of Aberdeen. Mauro is the director of the undergraduate programme in Financial Economics and teaches economic theory in the MSc in Financial Mathematics at the University of Aberdeen.

Welcome teas and coffees will be served at 09:00, the session will begin at 09:30 and finish at 12:30 with a buffet lunch will be served from 12:30 to 13:30 when Jürgen and Mauro will be around for further discussion.
