Summary - This will be an inspirational talk covering Sir Gary Verity’s own experiences and the development of Welcome to Yorkshire. As the man who brought ‘Le Tour de France’ to Yorkshire and with his development of the reputation of his county on a worldwide basis the chance to hear him speak is not to be missed. Sir Gary will also talk about how is work links in to our profession (for instance relating to events), and the views of a layman of the insurance industry.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, delegates will be able to identify:

- how Welcome to Yorkshire was developed and how the Tour De France was brought to Yorkshire
- how to make their own business opportunities reality
- the views of a layman on how the insurance industry is viewed and how this could be improved
- the more novel insurance needs of bringing big events to life

Speaker's Biography
Sir Gary Verity is a dynamic and motivational leader with a track record in brand building and managing complex businesses. Taking over as Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire in 2008 he and his team have raised the profile of Yorkshire at a national and international level. The team at Welcome to Yorkshire work closely with tourism business, councils and other partners to grow the county as a visitor economy and make the county a leading tourist destination. Pinnacles of this include briging the Tour de France depart to Yorkshire in 2014 for which Gary Verity received his Knighthood from the Queen.
