Webinar - Fire & Fury, when disaster struck: What happened next?

Join us at the annual North East Insurance Institutes Seminar - presented as a webinar for 2020.

This year's event is a follow-up to last year's real-life case study 'Fire and Fury'and looks at what happened following disaster striking at the premises of a leading local manufacturer.

If you missed that event you don’t need to worry. We will give you all the details you need to follow our continuing story. The event will be very engaging as DACB plan to show us extracts of mock trials, PACE interviews and what happens at the scene of an incident.

Here is what will be covered during the event:

A number of civil claims are received following a serious fire in a jam jar factory.

We will consider practical examples of how to deal with the claims, considering a number of issues that arise such as legal privilege, investigations and disclosure, and expert evidence.

We will also consider whether any of the claims received could be fraudulent and provide practical tips on how to spot fraudulent claims and how to deal with those.

We will also see an extract of a mock trial, and specifically the cross examination of a claimant suspected of bringing a fraudulent claim.

During our afternoon session you will watch the recording of a driver who has been involved in an accident and we will review his exchanges with the Police Officer at the scene. We will then follow the impact of that roadside account through to a trial and the conviction of the driver.

We will also review the legal position of the company when a director is invited to an interview under caution by the HSE due to an alleged failure to manage stress in the workplace. You will see an extract of that PACE interview and the ultimate cross examination of the director at a trial so that you see the impact of comments made during the interview on the outcome of a trial in health and safety cases.

There will be opportunities to ask questions and plenty of breaks throughout the day. We hope you can join us for what promises to be a very interesting event.
