This session from the travel team at Crawford Legal Services will provide a travel law roundup, including an update on Brexit and travel in a post-Covid world. The team are passionate about ensuring the insurance industry is kept up to date with the ever changing advice and guidance in relation to travel. Anyone with an interest in travel law, Brexit, or travelling during the pandemic should attend this session, in particular insurers, brokers, travel companies, tour operators, and travel agents.

Speakers

Victoria Edwards
Partner, Crawford Legal Services

Victoria has over 19 years’ experience in the travel and casualty industry and joined Crawford Legal Services in early 2020. Victoria’s knowledge spans from pre-litigated slips and trips through to complex high value litigated accidents that occur in foreign jurisdictions all over the world.

She has vast experience in claims ranging from sexual assault to multi claimant and defendant cases. Victoria is also highly valued by clients for her advice on policy coverage issues. Victoria deals with jurisdictional issues on a day to day to basis globally, often acting for the insurance companies and the insured in personal liability and legal expenses claims.

She is known within the travel industry for her expertise with the fourth and subsequent motor directives, property damage, skiing accidents, employer’s liability and public liability claims dealing with issues regarding limitation, procedural arguments, implementation of direct rights of action in the EU and none EU member states. Victoria is adept in handling multi action claimant and defendant cases and works closely with her team to ensure that the next generation’s knowledge is developed and grown when it comes to travel and casualty law.


Yvonne Firth
Solicitor, Crawford Legal Services

Yvonne has over 10 years’ experience in the insurance industry and eight years dealing with a range of claims. She advises large insurance companies, corporates and individuals. Yvonne worked with a well-known UK law firm for eight years as a litigation legal assistant, trainee solicitor and then qualified solicitor, before joining Crawford Legal Services in early 2020.

Over the past two years, Yvonne has focused primarily on international travel claims, receiving instructions from insurers and their policyholders under travel insurance policies utilising both the legal expenses and personal liability sections of the policy.

She is involved across a range of incidents including road traffic accidents, ski accidents, a variety of public liability claims as well as medical negligence claims involving jurisdictions both within and outside of the European Union and where the English court has jurisdiction. Yvonne is also well equipped to advise insurers on the commercial viability of pursuing subrogated only recovery claims.

Alison Matthew
Solicitor, Crawford Legal Services

Alison has over seven years’ experience in the insurance law space, across international travel law, casualty, property damage and corporate motor. She is skilled at handling a mixture of both claimant and defendant cases, ranging from small claims up to complex high value litigated matters.

At Crawford Legal Services, Alison specialises in international travel law, having joined the firm in early 2020. Alison assists clients with complex jurisdictional disputes, cross border claims, legal expenses insurance claims, defending Package Travel Regulation claims (including holiday sickness claims, slips, trips and even bedbugs) and policy indemnity issues.

She has handled cases involving various international laws including Rome I, Rome II, Athens Convention and the Fourth and Subsequent Motor Directives, and has experience in both pursuing and defending cases in relation to accidents occurring both in and outside the EU, as well as where the English Court has jurisdiction.
