Synopsis:
Telematics, The Connected Car and World Peace

Telematics and the connected car have disrupted the automotive market for the last decade. This session will provide an overview of what telematics actually means, the benefits to both the consumer and the insurer and why telematics is so high on the industry’s agenda; but we will look at this with a healthy dose of reality!

In this session, LexisNexis Risk Solutions will look at the social impact of telematics and the achievements in the young-driver market through “black-box” monitoring systems. Drawing upon these findings we will ask whether there is now justification for telematics to go beyond young drivers. This presentation will focus on new rating information provided by telematics and real-time car connectivity, as well as the opportunities and challenges this will create. Finally, the session will cover the next steps that are required in the insurance industry in order to take the use of telematics to a wider market. What has been missed? What are the risks of not doing so?

Learning Objectives:
• Understand why and how to reposition automotive insurance as a force for social good
• Look at consumer segmentation, attitudes and redefining the addressable market for usage-based insurance
• Review the next-generation of data attributes that insurers will be using to score and price, delivered at point-of-quote

Graham Gordon joined the LexisNexis Risk Solutions team in 2016. Formally, he was part of the senior leadership team as Director of Marketing at commercial fleet specialist, Masternaut. Graham has led several key data and analytics initiatives, including forming much of the early analysis and commercial understanding of the value of driver-behavior in the commercial fleet and business car sector.
