TECHNICAL WORKSHOP- USING ETFs IN PORTFOLIO CONSTRUCTION

This is a technical workshop of interest to those who specialise in portfolio construction and use or would like to use ETFs. An ETFs index is it's blueprint, the index determines how the fund will perform, but not all indices are created equal. Knowing how to look under the bonnet is crucial Learning how to track a funds index and understanding tracking error is important in the funds return. When to add smart beta to alpha.

The learning points:

• Know what you own - not all indices are the same;
• Learn to track the tracking error and tracking index;
• Sort out the beta from the alpha the smart way;
• Get smart about beta.
