This seminar will provide attendees with a valuable overview of professional liability claims from two legal experts in this field, as well as highlighting key regulatory changes and their consequences for both IFAs and their insurers.

Speakers' biographies:

Niall Innes is a professional indemnity lawyer who deals with claims against a number of professions ranging from solicitors and barristers to IT professionals, financial advisers and estate agents. The claims involve traditional claims for breach of contract and negligence but also dealing with disciplinary proceedings. He also gives policy advice to insurers and deals with challenges to decisions to decline indemnity. Niall has particular experience dealing with claims involving dishonesty.
As well as being a partner and the head of the Manchester insurance team, Niall is also the head of Mills & Reeve’s Manchester office.

Liam Burnett is a Principal Associate in Mills & Reeve’s Insurance Disputes team, based in Manchester. Liam specialises in defending claims against accountants, financial advisors, insurance brokers and solicitors. He also advises insurers in respect of policy coverage issues. In terms of claims against financial advisors, Liam has defended a variety of claims ranging from pension claims (failed pension transfers and failed pension equalisation) to failed investment claims including investment in UCIS as well as claims for breach of fiduciary duty from failing to disclose secret commissions to pooling and investing client funds without authority.
