Cheque presentation to NECCR

On 14th December 2017, our President Julie Hyde & our Charities Representative presented a cheque for £941 to North of England Children’s Cancer Research at the RVI from donations received at the 2017 CII dinner.

This charity has been running for over 30 years and in that time they have raised over £30m, which helps fund research for new treatments and therapies. They have corporate sponsors that include Greggs, Metro Radio and Stagecoach North East.

Cancer is the number one cause of non-accidental death in young children in the UK. The North of England Children’s Cancer Research Fund strives to raise money to directly fund research into the causes and treatment of this terrible disease.”

Chris Peacock, NECCR Chairman

As a result of research and better treatments, the chance of a child surviving cancer has more than doubled in the last 40 years. To put it another way, 15,000 more children have survived since the 1970’s if the chances of survival had remained the same as back then.

Julie plans to continue to support this charity personally; their first main event is the Children’s Cancer Run is at Newcastle Race Course, Gosforth Park on Sunday on 20th May. They raised a fantastic £249,000 at last year’s event.

The cheque was gratefully received by Janet Price (pictured below with Julie), who is their Fund Raising Manager.
