5-a-side football tournament

On 15 June the Insurance Institute of Newcastle upon Tyne held its annual 5-a-side football tournament at Powerleague Centre, Gateshead.

Teams entered from AA Insurance, Lowes Financial Management, Gale & Phillipson, St James's Place Wealth Management and Lycetts. A round robin of games took place with all the teams playing one another once. The top four teams progressed to the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals AA's first team played Gale & Phillipson and won 4-1. In the other semi-final AA's second team played Lycetts and won 2-1. This is the first occasion in the history of the event that two teams from the same company have reached the final.

In the final both teams took the lead twice. With penalties looming large, the winning goal was scored in the final 10 seconds of the game by AA's first team as they achieved a 6-5 victory.
