President's Message

Dear Members,

I am truly honoured to be elected as President of the Northampton Chartered Insurance Institute for the forthcoming year.

This year will be my fourth on council and I have seen the local institute grow, adapt and transform to support and represent local members within an ever-changing industry. As a development executive for a commercial insurance broker, I am certainly familiar with the need to balance professional demands, exams and qualifications, improving technical knowledge and working with professional bodies and local institute groups. The primary aim of our council is to facilitate a support network that allows all our members to thrive in each of these areas and to enable a commitment to professional standards.

The key to our support remaining relevant and relatable, however, lies in member engagement. We are an open, approachable and adaptable council and are eager for as many members as possible engage with the institute so we can truly understand what you expect us to deliver. If you have any ideas for CPD events contents and topics, seminar and workshop structures or social meetings, please feel free to email me on

My hobbies outside of the insurance industry include running, keeping fit, singing in The Royal & Derngate Community Choir, running a Girl Guiding Unit and trying and testing new recipes in the kitchen! This year I will be balancing my daily role, the institute objectives and these hobbies with fundraising for my chosen charity.

This year, my charity will be Blind Veterans UK, particularly their centre in Llandudno. I will be forever grateful to the charity who have offered a host of support to my family and of course, the wider veteran community. They offer inspiration and guidance to people following the life changing incident of losing their sight and I am delighted to have this opportunity to raise some funds and spread awareness of the fantastic work that they do.

Institute events rely on the time and commitment of council volunteers, institute members and their employers and I offer my personal thanks to all those who are involved and support our annual programme.

Finally, I cannot wait to share some new ideas with the institute this year and try to continue the fantastic reputation and achievements of our predecessors,

Let’s see what the year ahead holds!

Sian Cassie
