Get to Know Your Council - July Release

Name: Sharon Theobald

Occupation/Industry Experience:

I was in the loss adjusting industry for nearly 20 years working my way from secretary to claims handler, and then from trainee adjuster to commercial adjuster and finally the Ipswich Branch Manager for Crawford Loss Adjusters. I joined Alan Boswell Group in 2009 as a Claims Consultant to assist clients with technical or major losses.

How long have you been on the Insurance Institute of Norwich’s Council?

I was previously a member of the institute a few years ago but as a full time mum of twins I felt I could not give the role the attention I wanted. I returned to Council in 2018 as a general committee member and more recently taken on the role as Education Secretary.

What is your role, and what does it involve?

The Education Secretary works with the Education Committee and is responsible for the institute's CPD programme, sourcing suitable speakers for lectures, venues and ensuring

suitable and relevant topics and content for our local Institute members. Why did you decide to join the Council?

I have drawn on the resources of the CII throughout my career and wanted to give something back. A long-term colleague and friend were also on the Council and I was, shall we say, a little coerced to return! I am keen to raise the profile of our local institute to ensure its longevity and to raise awareness to enable others to take advantage of what the Council offers.

What are you most looking forward in the forthcoming year on the Council?

The challenges have changed in light of Covid-19 where we face different issues to bring relevant and accessible CPD content. I’m looking forward to drawing on the experience of the education committee to bring an exciting on line programme of events.

Tell us one unusual fact about yourself

I ran my first half marathon aged 48 to raise money for the local Norwich cancer charity, Big C and will hopefully be running my first marathon in April 2021 to raise vital funds for a small charity called Nerve Tumours UK.
