Get to know your council - September Release

Name: Alison Holmes

Occupation/Industry Experience:

I’m a Client Adviser at Marsh in Norwich. I have worked in the insurance industry since leaving school.

How long have you been on the Insurance Institute of Norwich’s Council?

It must be at least 20 years.............

What is your role, and what does it involve?

I am a member of the Education sub-committee, working with our Education

Secretary Sharon Theobald and the team to organise and deliver CPD, webinars and other learning opportunities.

I am also the Institute’s Regional Representative, working with other institutes within the Anglia Region on regional initiatives, such as the recent Regional Revision courses for some of the Diploma Units.

I am also a three times past President.

Why did you decide to join the Council?

I thought it would be good to meet people within the industry locally who I did not necessarily work with on a daily basis. I have made so many good friends as a result; it was clearly the right decision!

What are you most looking forward in the forthcoming year on the Council?

This year has been so challenging because of COVID-19 – we have had to find new ways of doing everything from exam setting to delivery of all our lectures via webinars. But I am so pleased how everyone has responded to the challenge and the fantastic support we are seeing from our membership for the online events we have been organising and I hope it continues. I am sad that there won’t be an annual dinner this year though!

Tell us one unusual fact about yourself

In 1996 I appeared on Channel 4 in an episode of a quiz show called ‘Backdate’. Hardly my finest hour.......................
