Overview

This seminar will cover key parts of the business interruption operative clause, the meaning and scope of damage and the operation of the material damage proviso. Damian will provide delegates with examples of consequential losses that are not covered and describe key aspects of the maximum indemnity period (and why 12 months is insufficient).

Delegates will learn about the calculation of gross profit for insurance policies and the key pitfalls, operation of ICW cover and common misunderstandings. Common business interruption extensions will also be discussed.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this event, the delegate will be able to identify:

  • an understanding of business interruption policy wordings
  • how to confidently discuss and arrange business interruption cover with policyholders.

Timings

  • 9.30 am registration for 10 am start - Breakfast cobs & Tea/Coffee
  • 10 am until 11.30 am – Part one of session
  • 11.30 am until 11.45 am – Break - Tea/coffee & homemade cake
  • 11.45am until 1pm – Part two of session - Sandwiches & chips at the end

Whilst included for free, the car park does not have that many spaces, so please note that parking at the venue is on a first come basis – there is a Q Park next door and other car parks nearby.

Damian is a Director, Head of Financial Risks at Sedgwick. Damian chairs the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (CILA) Business Interruption group, and has previously set business interruption examinations for the CILA. He regularly runs financial loss seminars throughout the UK and is a published author on the subject of business interruption, including co-chairing a widely read report on BI wordings issued by CILA and the IIL/CII (Chartered Insurance Institute).

The Nottingham Insurance Institute charges for non-attendance at all CPD events. If you do find that you are unable to attend, we ask that you give us at least 4 working days’ notice that you are no longer able to attend.

Please note, if you fail to let us know before this deadline, we will need to charge a £30.00 (inc. VAT) non-attendance fee to cover the cost of catering, booking arrangements and denial of your place to other members.

All cancellations must be received by email and you will receive confirmation of your cancellation. You may also nominate a replacement if you are unable to attend. By proceeding with the registration, you agree to these terms and conditions.
