Session 1 (08:30 - 11:00): The Change in the Discount Rate (Ogden Tables)

  • understand the difference between special and general damages in liability claims
  • understand how the Ogden table rates affect liability claims
  • understand how the recent change in discount rate will affect premiums in the market place
  • understand the capital implications for insurers following the Ogden table change

Session 2 (11:30 - 14:00): How Liability Can Arise

  • Understand how clients can become legally liable through the law of tort
  • understanding how legal liability policies cover far more than negligence
  • Being able to explain to your clients the difference between negligence, nuisance, strict liability, trespass, defamation and statutory liability and how they can potentially be sued under each of these torts.

Session 3 (14:30 - 17:00): Directors and Officers

  • Understand how directors can become personally liable at law
  • Be able to explain to your clients why they need to purchase D&O including being able to quote specific practical examples
  • Understand the main workings of a D&O policy wording so that you can place the correct cover in the market place (this will be non insurer specific as this is a learning day not a selling day!)
