President's Christmas Message

Wishing all our members a very Merry Christmas and a much happier New Year!

This year has been a strange and challenging one and didn't pan out as the Council and I expected it to as we entered the Insurance Institute's Centenary year. We only managed one celebratory event in January, with our Centenary Annual Dinner being postponed TWICE when the insurance market imposed travel and meeting restrictions from the beginning of March closely followed by government and CII guidance and then when the second wave caused further restrictions in the autumn.

We are looking forward to getting back to those celebrations as soon as it is safe to do so! We also want to resume our fundraising for our three nominated charities and The Insurance Charities

We've kept in touch with our members and the wider insurance community via our social media platforms and also from March, delivered an extensive CPD webinar programme covering technical, soft skills, impact of COVID, mental health and mindfulness events as well as working with the Insurance Institutes of Bournemouth, Guildford and Southampton, Thames Valley Personal Finance Society, Hants & Dorset Personal Finance Society and Surrey Personal Finance Society to deliver a joint funded programme of revision events.

2021 aside from our Centenary event will see us work with the ten local insurance institutes within the Southern Region to provide a regional CPD programme which will begin in January as well as our own CPD events.

Thank you for supporting us through this year. Keep checking our Linked In and Twitter pages, our Facebook Group page and our web site at https://www.localinstitutes.cii.co.uk/reading/home

Meanwhile stay safe and have the best Christmas that you can have in the circumstances.

From Karen Rose, President and The Insurance Institute of Reading Council
