Subsidence

Learning Objective: To give an overview of what subsidence is, how to identify it, common causes and remedial measures. To give an understanding of how a subsidence claim works.

The Southampton Insurance Institute welcomes Mark Lacy. Mark has worked at GHG Limited for just over 10 years initially as a subsidence engineer, since the start of this 2016 Mark has been the technical manager of the subsidence division. Mark previously worked at Crawford and Company for nearly 3 years as a subsidence engineer and before that at McLarens for approximately 6 years dealing with subsidence claims and other property perils. Mark has a degree in building surveying and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Building and Chartered Institute of Building Engineers.

The talk will cover a brief review of a description of subsidence, what it is and what the damage looks like. Examples of different causes and how we go about identifying them. Ways to mitigate the problem and monitor movement. Examples of different remedial measures.
