Brexit considerations for the insurance industry

Overview

Ben will cover the impact of Brexit on the UK and European insurance industry, the Brexit plans that firms have put in place and the outlook for the coming months of negotiations.

He will provide an update on the policy landscape, explain how insurers, brokers and other market participants are responding to Brexit, and set out some of the key technical considerations. His lecture will cover both General and Life Insurance, and include EY’s views on the impact of the transition period on the industry.

Bio

Ben is an Associate Partner in EY’s UK insurance business, with a particular focus on large commercial insurers, reinsurers and brokers operating in the global specialty market. He leads EY’s Insurance Brexit capability. Ben is responsible for the firm’s relationship with some of our key clients in this sector. From 2015 – 2016, Ben was seconded as the first Chief Executive of the London Market Group, which is the representative body for the 350 firms operating in the £60bn London Insurance Market. Ben’s experience is as a management consultant specialising in the design and delivery of operational change initiatives for specialty insurance clients, to enable both accelerated growth and enterprise cost reduction. Ben has a Masters Degree in History from Queens' College, University of Cambridge and previously worked as Head of Private Office to a Shadow Minister.
