Managing Mavericks

The University of Brighton Business School in association with the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development invites members of the Insurance Institute of Sussex and other local professional associations to their next networking event at Mithras House, Brighton on Thursday 12 November 2015.

This time, the event is focusing on mavericks and welcomes high profile broadcaster and one-time parliamentarian Lembit Opik as its guest speaker.

Often regarded with suspicion, hostility or even ridicule, mavericks will regularly offer breakthrough solutions to longstanding problems or a pressing crisis. Managing Mavericks offers a compelling insight into the reasons that mavericks think the way they do, the influence of "left/right brain dominance" and the difference between "authentic" and "synthetic maverick behaviour.

The session will also provide a practical way to get the most from people who, by definition, think outside the mainstream. With the application of some simple tools, your team will perceive mavericks not as awkward outsiders, but instead as valued and inspirational problem solvers.

This event is free to members (who will need to confirm their membership number when booking) and costs £10 for anyone else (this is payable on the door) and includes a buffet networking reception from 8.15 onwards. To register, please use our online booking form below.
