Tour of Brighton's Sewers

Brighton Pier
Wednesday, 27 July 2016
6:00 pm – 7:30 pm (UK time)

*** SOLD OUT ***

Members who joined us under the streets of Brighton a couple of years ago, were fairly unanimous in their views that this was a great experience - so is something we had to repeat!

Costing just £10 per person, this is your chance to join us for an evening of exploration deep under the streets of Brighton!

Places are strictly limited, but members may each bring one guest with them if they wish (no under 11s - see also health and safety guidance below).

Provided by Southern Water, these tours are unique. There is nowhere else in Britain where you can walk through the labyrinth of tunnels beneath our towns and learn secrets from 150 years ago.

Those attending will need to meet at Arch 260 under Brighton Pier and full details will be provided once your booking has been confirmed.

If you would like to join us, please use our online booking and payment system to reserve your place today by clicking on the Book Now button below.

Please note, this event is now sold out.

If you experience any problems when booking, please email Susan at secretary@sussexcii.org.uk.

Important note:

Please make sure you read all the points below and follow the guidance shown as Southern Water may refuse admission to the tour if you do not comply with these instructions.

Eligibility - The minimum age for visitors is 11. Southern Water also does not recommend the elderly or infirm join the tour because the sewers are slippery and have a number of steps and ladders to climb.

Fitness - The sewers are deep, poorly lit and slippery. Walking through them and climbing a 15ft vertical exit ladder both require reasonable agility. Sewers are also confined spaces and the atmosphere can be unpleasant for some and cause breathing problems for those who suffer from asthma, bronchial illness or angina. The sewers could also cause claustrophobic distress for some visitors.

Clothing - Dress for comfort, such as trousers or jeans with a long-sleeved top. Shorts or skirts are not recommended. Open shoes or high heels are not allowed. Latex gloves and safety helmets will be provided and must be worn at all times.

Cancellation - A tour will be cancelled by Southern Water if there is heavy rain. We will use the contact details you have provided to let you know in advance, where possible. However, the unpredictability of the weather means that notification may not always be possible until you arrive for the start of your tour. If a tour needs to be cancelled by Southern Water we will not be able to rearrange this, so will arrange for your payment to be refunded shortly afterwards. We are unable to offer refunds for any other reason once a booking has been confirmed.

Rats - It is rare to see a rat, but it is a working sewer. The tour route is washed down before each visit and this usually scares them away.

Liability - Neither Southern Water, nor the Insurance Institute of Sussex/the CII can accept liability for any loss, damage or personal injury
