An Introduction to Policy Coverage and Liabilities

This first of two Professional Indemnity seminars takes place on Tuesday 8 January, when Tony Gregory, Managing Director of Insurance Market Conferences will provide delegates with an introductory explanation of policy cover, in particular the interpretation of “claims made” and “circumstances”. It will also provide an outline of how professionals incur liability.

An introductory analysis of Professional Indemnity insurance wordings

  • the application of a retroactive date

  • “negligent act error or omission” and “civil liability”

  • extensions of cover

  • exclusions and conditions

The liability of professionals

Learning objectives
On completion of the one-hour course delegates will:

  • understand the fundamental aspects of Professional Indemnity insurance cover

  • understand the differences between “civil liability” and “negligent act error or omission” Professional Indemnity wordings

  • be familiar with the principal extensions and exclusions which are usually included in a Professional Indemnity policy

  • have an understanding of how professionals incur liability

Getting there
If travelling by car, the nearest car park is in Cyprus Road at the back of the Town Council Offices building on Crescent Way. Please note that Pay & Display charges apply until 6.00pm, but parking is free after this.

Burgess Hill train station is about 7 minutes' walk from the venue.

Please note: this event will take place at the Council Chamber on the 1st floor. A lift will normally be available for delegates to access the training, but stairs will need to be used in the event of an emergency evacuation of the building.

About our speaker
Tony Gregory is Managing Director of Insurance Market Conferences (IMC). He had many years’ experience in the London Market underwriting Liability and Professional Indemnity business before establishing IMC.

He is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Vice President of the Insurance Institute of London. He holds the Registered Professional Liability Underwriter designation of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (US) and the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation (US). He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Laws from the University of London. Tony was the leader of the Insurance Institute of London’s research groups on “Professional Indemnity Insurance” (First Edition) and of “Liability and Accident Compensation”. He was a founder member of the Liability Underwriters Group.

Tony lectures and provides training in a range of insurance topics in the London Market and worldwide and for academic institutions including the University of Cardiff, the University of Bath and Florida State University.
