A Virtual Tour of Chichester - Romans and Ruins

Join actor and tour guide, Nick Richmond, for a virtual tour around and beyond this walled Sussex city, known in Roman times as Noviomagus Reginorum.

You will hear about the following:

  • the remains of the Roman walls around the town, the defensive weapons that the Romans used to defend them and the ancient British camp that was there before

  • Fishbourne and its links with the British "king" of Chichester, Codignubus

  • the ruins of the palace, the ruin that was made of the cathedral and the ruins of the wall during the Civil War

  • the history of the cathedral, its links with Bernstein and its falcons

  • the city shutting its gates during the plague and fishermen leaving fish outside the city to help feed the town

  • Dodo House and the arrival of the Georgians in Chichester

  • Queen Victoria's visit

The presentation is free to CII/PFS members (non-members £3 per login) and starts promptly at 7.30pm on Thursday 27 January 2022.
