Lunchtime Lecture: An Introduction to Reinsurance

This talk will be given by Ian Walker of Aspen Re

Ian is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance, a former Insurance institute President and currently represents the Reinsurance sector on the Insurance Institute of London Representative's Committee. He has worked in insurance and reinsurance for 12 years. The last 6 years have been spent as a Senior Underwriter for Aspen Re's International Property Facultative team in London.

This will be a whistle-stop look at Reinsurance, answering the question 'What is it?'. It will also delve into Reinsurance Concepts, the Basics of Facultative and Treaty Reinsurance; and, take a look into a metaphorical Reinsurance crystal ball to see what the future entails.

Lecture objectives:

  • To learn about the functions of Reinsurance and the Providers;
  • To learn about Facultative and Treaty Reinsurance and Pro Rata and Excess of Loss;
  • To learn how to apply the basics of Facultative Reinsurance and Treaty Reinsurance

Time: 12.30pm Buffet lunch; 1pm Lecture

Venue: Hotel du Vin, Church St, Birmingham

Lecture are provided free of charge to CII/PFS members.
