This lecture will be presented by David Parker of Crawford & Company. David is the Privacy Manager for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific for Crawford & Company.

Overview:

David will cover an overview of the European Data Protection Reform and where we are in terms of its progress through legislative process. It covers what's likely to be in it and then highlight at a very high level some areas of particular importance or concern.

This talk should be of general interest to everyone but particularly those involved in management, compliance and corporate governance.

Learning objectives:

By attending this event members will gain appreciation of:

  • The role of the Data Controller or Data Processor and the responsibilities of each
  • The impact on the organisation of data breaches and a discussion of three examples highlighting the learning for all of us
  • Privacy by Design which is going to be pushed very hard under the new regulation and may even be mandatory in certain situations
  • The importance and necessity of staff training
  • Data retention and the conflict around that i.e. the tendency to collect far too much and keep it for far too long
  • Use of Social Media as part of an anti-fraud strategy
